They have a drink called Ass Juice and when you ask what is in it they usually say "i dont know, i didnt make it" .The taxi driver didnt want to drop us off at first. Walking out the "front" door about 6 weeks ago, after walking a block towards the Hard Rock a wasted tweaker was about to go after me and a buddy until i just spat on him and asked him what he was going to do now. Right at a street crossing, people in the cars were laughing. I am 6 foot 4 and a big hairy scottish guy and my English pal can take care of himself as well. Wierd town )

Radio Interview on Indie 103.1 ........
Oi. Tudo bem?
On Wednesday, December 12th Devendra will be doing an on-air interview/performance during Jonesy's Jukebox radio show on Los Angeles radio station Indie 103.1. The interview will start around Noon PST and will re-broadcast at 6pm.
It should be fun... host Steve Jones (yes! guitarist from The Sex Pistols) has been a vocal fan of Devendra's for a while. LA friends can tune in to 103.1 on the FM dial, and the show will also be broadcast live over the internet:

"In addition to the two scheduled shows in L.A. and New York, they plan to play acoustic sets on several USA radio shows - including our own Steve Jones' show "Jonesy's Jukebox" on Monday 3rd."
Another 2 names and lots of stories to add to what i noted in this earlier post.
These are some of the best shows with people remembering things that Steve has no clue about because he was so screwed up at the time.
"Billy Idol, Tony James, Steve Jones, Paul Cook and Terry Chimes" "What a group that would have been" " Two drummers. Like the Glitter band " "...without the paedophile of course"
( EDIT Dec13 Tony James has a write up on the CS web site about the Jukebox experience. I may "borrow" it for safe keeping and hide it in the "Read More" . LINK )
Jonesy’s Jukebox
13/12/2007 20:23:03
One of the first radio shows we were to be on was the famous Jonesy’s Jukebox...103.1 and I have to tell you it’s something else - anyone who is a regular listener will know the form - Steve plays everything and anything that takes his ear..... and says anything he likes.... This is not formula radio..........
Now we’ve both known Steve ever since..oh, even before punk broke, probably meeting in about 1975, but when it did we still used to all hang out at each others places. One of my most vivid memories is of Steve coming round one evening to this house Mick and I were renting, just off London’s Portobello road, I remember it was called “Simon Close”... After a while Steve said do you mind if I play some records, staring at the massive collection of vinyl we had there.. and that’s why I remember that evening, because he played the most off the wall, brilliant and eclectic selection of tracks - the boy had taste beyond cool.......(as well as being one of the best guitar players I ever heard) ..........
So 20 years later I heard he had this radio show in L.A and he had taken his personality and taste to America and stories of the crazy Brit were already legend...
We’d seen Steve play with the reformed Sex Pistols in London, the week before we left for the States and it felt real good to put my arm round him (even if his somewhat expanded girth meant I needed a slightly longer arm than I remembered - as he was the first to admit - “Yeah Tone I’ve turned into a fat bastard”). Anyway, we promised he would be the first show we would appear on after touchdown in the U.S.A....................
I love those big trucks you ride about in in L.A (well they feel like trucks to us from the U.K to Americans they’re just regular taxi busses) and I was ready for a big first day, but it still felt surreal driving through the L.A haze and dealing with the first days jetlag .......
It was strange to see Steve in the studio when we arrived, with his headphones hanging around his neck.. I looked in amazement at the selection of CD’s he had laid out on the desk, even a CD of old U.K television background music sitting alongside a Ducks Delux and Pub Rock compilation album ..... “Stay as long as you like” he greeted us... well I’ve been on a lot of radio shows but the next 2 hours seemed to fly by as we just chatted about everything from the situation in Sudan to the time Steve taught me to play Pistols songs on guitar many years before (I had Johnny Thunders and Steve staying at my apartment for a month in the early eighties..and no, they were not that good at tidying up before you ask - but they did play fucking great guitar in my front room..........
Steve played everything that day at the radio station from Elvis to Pinky and Perky, via the Chipmunks for comparison..... talked in his matter of fact casual, oh so brilliant way, sometimes drifting into silence... we all remembered stories, provoked and laughed a lot and I loved every record he put on.. it was the total opposite of 'we’re here to the sell the product ' talk you often get, or the regular questions - you never knew what would come next - 2 great hours being cool with an old friend, we didn’t even see the hands on the clock pass and of course never got round to picking up the two acoustic guitars we’d brought with us..... So that’s why people tune in every day.....
Why can’t all radio be like this......

Late Late Show w. Craig Ferguson
113 people in the crowd and the band, playing then interview.
Well done.
.. and Steve really does have the flu.
Got in.
Band played first then stage cleared and Ferguson did his monologue.
Then bit behind desk.
John and Steve then came out. ( They originally said they would be on talking last )
Then Joe Theisman.
Then recorded the intro to the Pistols with the Kenneth Branagh bit ( He was only on tape from a previous appearrance ) and the "Thanks and Good Night" which of course was in relation to a song finished an hour or so before :-)
After they were to use Steve in an ESPN-UK sketch but he was obviously too sick so they used Joe instead.
All filmed out of sequence but great to be so close to the band playing.

"The combustible singer was in cheerily sarcastic form for much of the night. When a young woman bounded onto the knee-high stage and hugged guitarist Steve Jones, 52, in the middle of a song, Lydon quipped: "Steve Jones always gets the fat ones!" "
The band first reunited in 1996 and then again in 2002 and 2003. Lydon and Jones live in Los Angeles, the others in London. Jones has perhaps the highest profile of the lot, hosting a popular Los Angeles midday radio show.

.. Another thing about these tickets.
The nature of the way to win stops people from advertising and gaining listeners for Indie. Why would i tell people about the phone in for tickets to make more people phone in and so further reducing my chances ? I have noticed a lack of reporting about this promotion on a lot of Los Angeles blogs that are normally up on these things, maybe they are trying to preserve their chances of winning.
(UPDATE just checked. Nothing in latimes.com , laweekly.com , laist.com all nothing about the Los Angeles show. ( even BoingBoing.net which had original London announcement has not mentioned the L.A. show ))
How are the people on the stream winning these call ins. It is on a delay isnt it. Wow !!

"Jonesy’s Jukebox
Indie FM 103.1
KDLE Newport Beach
Most of the time, a man who is potentially drunk, semi-confused and prone to long silences would seem a poor candidate for a career on the radio. Unless, of course, he’s an ex-Sex Pistol. Jonesy’s Jukebox is a bastion of musical authenticity in a sea of corporate playlists. He literally plays whatever he wants—or nothing at all. Between the hours of noon and 2 p.m., don’t freak out if you turn the radio to FM 103.1 and hear only the faint sound of heavy breathing and the clacking of plastic CD cases for a fair stretch before a groggy London accent finally breaks in, confessing to sex with Joan Jett, or some other celebrity. Jonesy is a little like the drunk uncle at Thanksgiving: Everyone in your family hates him, but you love the old coot because you know that sooner or later, he’s going to say something to offend the tightwads—only this one is the Sire of Wilshire, and he has his own radio show.

Shepherd Fairey was there as well.
"I swear i was born to rebel,
My pistols a sex weapon from Hell,
I swear i seen God kiss the Queen,
As a prophet of rage we cant be that mean !"
Also found out why Jones , Cook and Chris Thomas were together in LA recently. They were recording "God Save the Queen" and "Anarchy in the UK" as they had lost the masters and needed the songs for a new "Guitar Hero" video game. LINK
Why they are so stringent with the times and stop the show at 2 just to have another DJ come on is really annoying.
Here it is . Song starts about 20 mins in after an interview.

Once again ; does no one else see the Oral history of British punk rock being served up on LA Airwaves; Jones, Lydon, Cook, Matlock, Spedding, McLaren, Thomas , Scabies, Hynde, Salewicz , JAMC , Tony Wilson etc . Now there are stories and questions like todays re Steve taking Mick's place that this may be the first time ever documented. The Pete Townshend interview where he talked about a verse in "Who are you" being about Steve and Cook. The first time someone had really asked him.

Surf Junkie Jeff and Steve in OC Weekly
What’s it like in there?
To tell you the truth, it’s kind of like a college dorm. It’s small and plastered with rock & roll memorabilia: posters, fliers and photos signed by rock stars who have been through.
Is there the lingering smell of Jonesy’s passed gas?
When I go in there, it has never smelled too bad. I am usually in and out by the time Jonesy gets there. But sometimes I see him, and he always says, “Surf’s up, mate!”
Jonesy is always getting teased about his weight or whining about being overweight. Have you ever offered to take him surfing?
Yeah, whenever I see Steve at the station, I’ll hit him up about when we’re gonna go surfing. I think he’s about ready to give it a try with me this summer.

sunnydayinglasgow
and there really is more to read;
"(From the All Music Guide:)
Fronted by identical twin sisters Lauren and Robin Daniels and masterminded by their brother Ben, A Sunny Day in Glasgow have made a name for themselves with synth-laden pop songs reminiscent of My Bloody Valentine or the Jesus and Mary Chain. Ben Daniels started making cassette recordings with the help of his friend Ever Nalens years before A Sunny Day in Glasgow got together. Nalens moved to Glasgow from 2002 to 2004 in order to go to art school, and Daniels moved to London about a year later. They started collaborating again after Ben returned in the summer of 2005, but Nalens abandoned the project after a couple months. Daniels continued to write songs, asking his sister Robin to take over the vocals. Lauren was brought in as a vocalist a few months later, nd the group started recording tracks in Ben's West Philadelphia apartment and at their parents' ouse in the suburbs.
They put some of the tracks together and released them as an EP, called The Sunniest Day Ever, in March 2006. They didn't expect anything to come of it, so they were pleasantly surprised when the EP charted at number one on New York's WNYU and started getting radio play on at least a dozen college radio stations. Their songs started bouncing around online, bloggers began to take notice, and soon enough Pitchfork gave the first track on their EP, "C'mon," a four-star rating. Labels started to pay attention, and the group snagged a record deal with Notenuf Records in October 2006. Their first full-length record consists of tracks recorded between January and August of 2006, and is scheduled for release in February 2007."

On the radio
I’m set to appear tomorrow on “Jonesy’s Jukebox,” the radio show hosted by ex-Sex Pistols codger-freak Steve Jones. I’ll be one of three “guest jurors” on a two-hour segment in which he’ll play songs and we decide if said songs are “pants” (bad) or “mustard” (good). Not sure what’s up with the pants or the mustard or why I was asked to appear—must be my gig as music consultant on the Showtime series “Weeds.” Show airs Friday May 10 on Indie 103.1 FM from 12-2 pm with a rebroadcast from 6-8 pm.

In Los Angeles this afternoon. Played live on Jonsey's Jukebox on Indie 103.1. Doing the show was fun cause Jonsey has a great sense of humor and doesn't mind going off the rails at all. Whoever owned the building that all the radio stations we're in had a sense of humor too, just look at this sofa. They told us to have a seat but I couldn't bring myself to do it..LoL. The show at the Knitting factory was dyn-o-mite thanks to a rambunctious crew and our beautiful friend Gina who rocked the pipes during the encore!"

Hey guys. Those you who live in L.A. know that the raddest show on the air is "Jonesy's Jukebox," hosted by one-and-only Sex Pistol Steve Jones. Best. Radio Show. Ever.
Anyhoo, recently on Mondays he's started doing a segment called "Jonesy's Jukebox Jury," on which he blindly plays new songs for a panel of music "experts" who then critique the tunes. Instead of a "thumbs up/down" scenario, panelists give the songs ratings of either "mustard" (good) or "pants" (bad).
Past Jury guests have included Duran Duran's John Taylor and Morrissey's guitar player...and now ME! Yes, I will be offering my typical mouthy musical opinions on the show this Monday, March 26, 11am-1pm PST!
...and dont "Read more" unless there is something telling you to do that.
I need to go fix the stupid blogger recommended "Read More" system.

This day in music
1977, after being with the label for just six days The Sex Pistols were fired from A&M due to pressure from other label artists and its Los Angeles head office. 25,000 copies of ‘God Save The Queen’ were pressed and the band made £75,000 ($127,500) from the deal.

Nothing to do with the Jukebox
That changed . A year ago the station started to change and then shows were shifted about and playlists changed but still a loose knit group of people stayed in touch. I never met any of them, just not my thing to do, let alone had any contact that gained me anything from Indie , some replied too emails but nothing more. On Sunday one of Indies original supporters and staunchest intial listeners passed away. I know nobody at the station knows or cares, as it is a commercial enterprise , but i would just like to make note in passing. Some people who knew cared.
If i felt right enough to pass on the private emails and messages that were generated by this personality i would do so but do not feel comfortable doing that . Trying to control the force of nature that she was... it was definitely an interesting thing to be involved in.

Peace and thinking of the kid.
I know himself was a big Damned fan as his mom asked Dicky to play them for his birthday, and Dicky got Rat Scabies to do the dedication, but these lyrics strike a more important chord for me at this time....
The Clash; "Stay Free"
and i move anyway i wanna go
i'll never forget the feeling i got
when i heard that you'd got home
an' i'll never forget the smile on my face
'cos i knew where you would be
an' if you're in the crown tonight
have a drink on me
but go easy...step lightly...stay free"
Jury of the 5h
- Mark McGrath ; of T.V's Extra !!
- Liam Gowing ; no idea , a journalist turns up on a search so lets go with that. (OK. LA City editor for Onion AV Club and other things )
- Tracey Ullman ; One of a kind
- Dave French ; No idea either; i thought it said Dawn French; Vicar of Dibley; but apparently not. Ah !! Steve says; Sculptor and "You're the nobody this week"
This is/ was shaping up to be a great one. ( Dawn French and Tracey Ullman would have been great but now .... )
Steve has already said he is driving to Austin, so he must be leaving soon after this show :-)
( Update Monday: Apparently this show was recorded Saturday, so Steve must be on his way , that means Tuesdays show will be a repeat )
Tracey added to this by saying "Dont spoil my Saturday". She had just been told about Freddie of Freddie and the Dreamers death )
NB Why not have Tracey fill in sometime when they are going to play a repeat. Like tomorrow
... and Sir William Connolly is in town as well at least till the 24th .
( p.s. can i just say how much i hate the new blogger. what a pain in the arse )

If Sting or similar went on people probably wouldnt mind but is that not the same.
What is better a popular band that wants to be on or people who are supposed to be supported (ie Morrissey, Weller etc) who dont want to come on.
They eventually ended up recording some promo spots and acoustic songs with TK. Opportunity missed , i think.
