Jonesy on Craig Ferguson Show tonight, CBS. Review- Jonesy looked
very dapper in a fancy suit. Brought Craig a can of "spotted
dick." Birds like his English accent, but the girls in L.A. are
immune to it. Girls in small towns would be more impressed. .
Didn't show his belly this time

Guest: Alice Cooper

Guest: Alice Cooper

Alice Cooper

According to Phil Singleton, Alice Cooper is the guest today.

(Later ).. and it was correct .. Sung a bit of Eighteen .
( this was a really good show. Alice/Vince was really into it
and didn't quite believe the range of music that Steve was allowed to play SM)

Sounds like they tried to get Paul Weller for tomorrow but that didnt work out.

Its the MC5

Couple of songs

MC5

Jonesy might auction off the Ziploc baggie he uses to keep the
screen for his microphone clean. He's been using the same baggie
so long, it getting kinda dirty itself. He also uses the same pot
scrubbers and dish towels too long "when you could just go out and
buy 10 new ones for $1." "You need a woman." sighs Mr. S. Jonesy
acts like he didn't hear that "What?" "Well, see, that's why you
need a woman to tell you to go out and buy new pot scrubbers."
"I've been getting in touch with my feminine side," Jonesy adds.
"Well, that's another subject entirely," sez Mr.S.

Guests: MC5. Talked about meeting Sun Ra, how corporate radio is
like McDonalds and how the Creation used to have a midget with a
tommy gun come out of the drumkit at the end of their set. Played
"American Ruse" and "Shakin' Street" in-studio. They are playing
at Royce Hall Saturday night with the Sun Ra Orchestra & at Amoeba
Friday night. **MC5*

Guest: Dave Stewart (Eurhythmics) Dave played a song he recorded
with George Harrison and a new song he & Annie Lennox recorded (I
think the title was "I Have A Life")**

I have a bad feeling about this....

... and then the power went out in a large section of the SFV and some of LA.

Steve wanted to make sure that he was safe on his way home :-)

Power cut

Jonesy pulled his groin playing soccer this weekend & pondered its
exact defintion. At about 1 o' clock the traffic lights &
electricity in general went out all over L.A. Mr. S. made an
announcement, telling drivers to stay calm. Jonesy sang a little
ditty, extolling stay calm sentiments with "we're all going to
die" soundbites and "smash your car into the guy in front of you."
Song of the day- "When The Lights Go Down" by Journey.

Paul Cook

Image borrowed from indie1031.fm website :-)
From Cook 'n Jones News Page ;
"Paul Cook is the guest on tonight's Jonesy's Jukebox. Paul is in LA to celebrate Steve's 50th birthday on Saturday.
Update. Steve & Paul performed an impromptu acoustic duet of Silly Thing.
Update 2! Steve & Paul performed an impromptu 'cleaned up' acoustic duet of Friggin' In Riggin'. "

.. and the radio stream went to better quality today. So good recording.

"Captain of kumquats"

Paul Cook

Guest: Paul Cook. Played the "clean" version of/ Friggin In The
Riggin/ &/ Silly Thing/ in-studio. They bantered back and forth
about who did the better recordered version of /Silly Thing./ Paul
is in L.A. for ten days. Steve kidded him about how miserable
London is & how Paul lives only a few doors down from where he
grew up. Steve and Paul have been friends since they were 10. They
used to pass each other on the street walking to different
schools. (Paul was in the "smart "class, Steve was in the "dunce"
class.)There will be a celebrity-studded 50th birthday party for
Jonesy this weekend at a secret location. Chrissie Hynde will be
there, and (maybe) John Lydon?? Steve and Paul talked about the
alleged fight in a UK passport office twixt John and Jimmy Pursey
(Sham 69) Paul recorded some songs with Phil Collen from Def
Leppard, and has also produced a few young bands recently - the

Butch Vig and it sounds like the last of the mono-syllabic UK bands have been on.

John Peel TK3K

Sadly a great John Peel related site has had to shut down.
teenagekicks3000.com

Mr. Shovel read a letter from Los Angeles Magazine saying that
they've named Jonesy DJ of the Year & inviting him (& a guest) to
a party. Mr. S hinted that he wants to be the guest, but Jonesy
wants "a bird in a long gown" instead. Jonesy has a new cell phone
that has a spacy, New Agey type ringtone. Also, Jonesy's new mic
is limp.

Songs included:

Billy Corgan

Billy's playing at the Henry Fonda Last night and tonight.
Jonesy is seeing the 50 train coming along pretty quick i think.

They also talked about embarrassing photos and Steve thought his from the LongHair days
were bad. Maybe i should scan the picture that they had in Q magazine they have of his face all shiny and smooth. :-)

Billy Corgan

Guest: Billy Corgan. Billy diagnosed the cause of Jonesy's itchy
legs-mites!! "I had mites twice," sez Billy, "happens from
sleeping in bad hotels and on strange girls' floors." Jonesy
swears he's done neither lately. Lotsa talk about past lives,
religion, the Bible, death, flying, Chicago, scientists,
holograms, girls with bubble butts, etc. Jonesy wants to retire to
his own island with a Polynesian girl, ala Marlon Brando. Jonesy
got laid a lot in the '80s when he had long hair and rode a
motorcycle. Billy mentioned the book /Holographic Universe/ by
Michael Talbot (Link:***Holographic Universe

*
**********Billy
played "Now (& Then)" from his new CD "The Future Embrace" on
acoustic guitar in the studio. "Sounds like America!" sez Jonesy.
"That's not good," sez Billy. "No,no!" Jonesy backtracks, "I mean
Bread." "That's even worse!!" sez Billy. Billy's favorite guitar
players are Eddie Van Halen and Tony Iommi. Today is Mr. Shovel's
42nd birthday!!!

Monday, July 11, 2005

Steve finally confronted his neighbor who plays the loud,
excessive sub-woofer music. He'd previously delivered a letter to
their house (how polite!!), but over the weekend he walked over
the house (through the bushes!!) The neighbor sees him, goes "Oh,
it's you" and said he'd tone down the music. Steve is the
"quietest" neighbor one could have. Near the end of the show,
Steve suddenly developed a case of itchy legs and people called in
to diagnose the cause. (Was it a delayed reaction to bugs in the
bushes or were their mosquitoes in the studio?)

Songs included:

Black Brothers-Give Me Love
UFO-Lights Out
Jam-English Rose
Bad Brains-Banned in DC
Bernard Cribbins-Gossip Calypso

Heeeeeerreesss Stevie

The Man with the plan was back Wednesday.

Today we had a interesting if one sided conversation with Sir Iggworth of Pop, James Osterberg.

Iggy Pop

Iggy Pop called in from Miami. It's changed a lot since he first
visited there, "walking around in his leather outfit talking to
old Jewish cabdrivers." Iggy likes the "diffused light" in FL (in
contrast to the "penetrating sunlight" in L.A.) He said that
Jonesy is the loudest natural guitar player he's ever heard. "Give
a bunch of guitar players the same guitar and the same Marshall
stacks, Jonesy will be the loudest."

Songs included:

Dandy Warhols-Everyone Is Totally Insane
Stooges-No Fun

The Doves were the guest today.

Indie1031.fm: Joe Sib rules! I will miss Henry Rollins more than words can say. He brought so much into my life with his brilliant rants and musical choices. Yeah, they've got that Brit guy during the day whom I never miss. I wish they archived shows like Little Stevie, so you can listen over and over and avoid the crap they play over and over and over 90% of the time.

This site ( jennylens.net etc ) is extraordinary.

Pictures of a much smaller Steve :-)

The Bangles on today

Played pop trivia with the pontiff of pop and sang some songs.
inc Manic Monday ; Hazy shade of winter (?)

Aquabats today

On The Mighty Mighty Morning show !!! Charge

Yesterday was a bad driving day for Jonesy. He had a tire that
looked like it was slashed, then some inconsiderate guy in a Jaguar
parked to close to him in the Whole Foods parking lot and he had
to struggle to get back in his car. L.A. drivers have no courtesy.
"It's hard living in modern society," sez Mr. S., who added
motorists on Sunset Strip yesterday were "driving like asteriods
were coming." Nobody in L.A. uses turn signals, sez Steve. They
should hire people just to give tickets to people who don't use
turn signals." "They already have those," sez Mr.S., "they're
called police officiers." "No, just to give tickets to the people
w/o turn signals. They'd make a fortune."

Jonesy looks like a "swashbuckler" today, complete with 'stache.
Mr. S. has a new cell phone w/ the same service provider as
Jonesy, but his phone still won't work in the studio. Steve sang
some impromptu songs about "bad guys" such as Jack The Ripper and
Gengis Cohen (Kahn)"

Songs included:

Breakfast Club-Never Be The Same
Danny Wilson-Mary's Prayer
Everything But The Girl-Missing
Raspberries-Go All The Way
U2-Lemon
Pony Club-Thinking Of You

Jonesy and the Secret Machines

For you to trip out on? (Laughing) I heard you guys this afternoon on Jonesy’s Jukebox
Brandon: We played “Nowhere Again”. We’ve never done that before, ever. It was a total surprise.
Ben: First of all, it was a surprise that it was Steve Jones who was interviewing us.

"Brandon: Steve handed us a guitar and said, “Here – can you play it?” You can’t really say no, you know? He prefaced it with like, “There’s a lot of bands that come in here that can’t even play their own music and songs.” And it’s like, all right!"

John Waite

Jonesy had a dream last night that he was smoking cigarettes
again. It freaked him out. Mr. Shovel, doing an iffy Freud
impersonation, (***"What are you, Dr. Strangelove?",****** sez
Jonesy******), *** questions the meaning of the dream. He suggests
that Dr. Freud would say the cigarettes are a stand-in for another
similiarly shaped object. "Are you being offensive?" sez Jonesy.

Guest: John Waite

John has just moved to Santa Monica from NY and has a new album
coming out. Jonesy, John and John's guitar player Jimmy do
in-studio versions of "Dock of The Bay", "The Young Ones" and
"Missing You." We learn that after the Professionals tour of
America, their bodyguard threatened to kill Jonesy, so Jonesy
stayed in New York-for a couple years!
