article about Jonesy's Jukebox.

/"When the radio pitchmen who do the "Real Men of Genius" ads for
Bud Light praised the brand recently, Jonesy hammered away at them
to admit that, deep down, they must agree that all American beers
taste of urine. The squirming was nearly audible over the air.
"You don't drink this stuff, do you?" the DJ pokes. Later, off
air, he chuckles. "They're so showbiz they never expected someone
to do that on the air. But that beer can't be good." / *

Jonesy interview

"You're on billboards now, aren't you?

Yeah, it's crazy. It's really nuts, but it just goes to show you how starved people were for something decent on the radio in LA. It was absolute crap before Indie came along, I just mean rubbish. The same 10 fucking songs over and over and over again, 10 horrible songs. People get excited now, "God! it's two minutes to 12, get ready, we gotta put Jonesy's Jukebox on!"

& playing the Knitting Factory in L.A. tonight. Told a story about
going to Peter Sellars & Britt Ekland's house and eating brownies
which unbeknowst to her turned out to be-you guessed it-hash
brownies.Somehow they got on the subject of shampoo. Steve uses a
tar-smelling dandruff shampoo. He doesn't have dandruff though. So
Nancy smells his hair. "Smells good." she sez. "I haven't washed
it in two weeks!" Jonesy replies. Steve played Sid's version of
"My Way", which Nancy had never heard before.

They played a few songs live and gave away an amplifier. The

instrument?" Steve wondered. "She can give it to her loser
musician boyfriend," he joked. "Yeah, who sleeps on the floor,"
one of the band members quipped. "And then she comes home from
stripping and gives him all her money." Steve added, finishing up
the familiar joke about musicians & strippers.(No, the winner was
not a stripper, they were just joking.)

Today Jonesy complained about tip jars at coffee bars. "It's the
owners' fault for not paying good wages and the consumer has to
make up for it." he says. He also prefers "separate beds" after a
tryst. "I don't like sleeping with someone else. The bird's always
moving around, burping, farting.." "What kind of girls do you go
out with?" Mr. Shovel asked, bemused. "And then around three a.m.

Felix Dennis (Stuff/Maxim/Blender publisher) and Courtney Love
were guests. Felix read some of his poetry. He's currently
bringing his"Did I Mention The Free Wine?" poetry tour to the U.S.

He talked about living on Mustique part of the year, and when he
was in prison in the UK (Wormwood Scrubs) for publishing the
controversial magazine "Oz." Courtney was pretty calm (for her)
and seemed to behave, although Steve had to reprimand her because
her knee was "touching his doo-dad." She is headlining a show at
the Wiltern in L.A. Oct. 30th with the Suicide Girls & Juliette &

green day and meatloaf

Mr. Steele stopped by with the new Green Day album. During
the visit, the subject somehow turned to Meat Loaf (the

also mentioned the "Hooligans & Thugs" DVD that Jonesy

Happy Birthday 49

Steve in espanol, then Mr. Shovel presented him with an
orange satin turban, cape and scepter. (But where's the
spaceship?) Some listeners came in to interview him,

not quite sure what that was. At the end the Indie staff

A cron job kicks it off at 1155 am Monday to Friday.
After Fridays show that ran onto 2.30 pm i think i should set the end time as later just in case.

# to convert to wav
# mplayer -vc dummy -vo null -waveheader -ao pcm -aofile $DIRNAME/jj_`date +%F`.wav $DIRNAME/jj_`date +%F`.asf

John Taylor Simon Le Bon

Guests: John Taylor and Simon LeBon. The boys have just
finished a US promo tour for their new album "Astronaut" on
Sony/Epic. Some of the songs were produced by Dallas Austin
and Nile Rodgers. Simon didn't show up til 10 to 2 cuz
somebody gave him the wrong address. So the show ran a bit
late, til about 20 after 2, maybe 2:30. Once again the
subject of caning came up and Simon told a story about how
he was caned by a teacher for smoking a cigarette at school
when he was 15! Jonesy mentioned how he was singled out by
airport security in Vegas last year. "I'd love to ask but I
won't," John quipped. Simon talked a little bit about his
daughters. They played " Sunrise" from the new album to end
the show. There is another article about Jonesy in Venice
Magazine The mag is out at newsstands today, but the new
issue isn't up on the web yet.

Captain Sensible

Jonesy's back from vacation. Spent the first few days "driving
around and listening to meself on the radio", then finally went to
San Francisco on Friday with a friend. Haight-Ashbury is a "dump",
the Ameoba in Hollywood is better than the one in SF,strip clubs
there ain't what they used to be and admiring the starfish and
kelp off the coast of Monterey on the way back was a highlight.
***

***Captain Sensible of the Damned was the guest for the second
hour. We learn that "Brighton is the gay capital of England". It
also is the home of lots of music celebs, such as the Captain,
Baby Spice, Robert Smith, etc.The Damned groupies tend to be
dominatrix types & the Captain has a thing for S/M, which all
started via spankings from a pretty PE teacher back in his school
days. Jonesy is not into the dominatrix thing "I don't like women
touching me that way." Cliff Richard is a wanker who said nasty
things about the Damned on a Brit TV show,. This was one of
Jonesy's best interviews.***

***Songs included:
Southern Girls-Cheap Trick
Southbound-Thin Lizzy
Battleship Chains-Georgia Satellites
Killing Joke-Are You Receiving?
Private World-New York Dolls
Young Heart Attack-Starlight
Caesars -Sort It Out
Mere Mortals-Cracked

3fers

***Last day for "3-fers." For the first time in weeks, Jonesy
mentioned his admiration for "bubble butts." He also went into one
of his wistful speeches about growing older. There was a mention
of Joy Division that delved into a general discussion about
suicide, but I didn't catch the details. And they played my
favorite "ding-dong"- "I dunno. Sometimes you sound really
depressed, then you sound really happy and you make screeching
sounds and I'm at work and I have to turn the radio down. I think
you're a confused old man but you're very cute."***

little bit about the Pistols, interviewed a few 20something kids
coming out of Ameoba Records about the show, and talked to Jonesy
briefly about the show and, of course, mentioned the sex
shenanigans from back in the day. BTW, Steve looks good for 48,
he's put on a few pounds but he's not fat. And I think he looks

weekly award. Said he might give it to Rodney "so he could put it
his apartment with all his other stuff." (If you saw "The Mayor Of
Sunset Strip, you'll get that reference.) He then told a story how
his uncle fixed a contest so his mum and dad would win a fridge at
Tesco. He also talked about how he stole cymbals from some club
and hid 'em underneath his overcoat. Later that evening, the
bouncers caught him peeping in the ladies room and they proceeded
to hold him upside down over the side of the building. Didn't drop
him, though. ***

Camp Freddy- The guys got a call from a listener who was allegedly arrested for public nudity(?!) Dave talked briefly about Jane's Addiction breaking up. They also talked about leaving the L.A. Music Awards early cuz the "festivities" were so lame.(They were supposed to present the award for best radio show.) "Jonesy's Jukebox" won, of course & Steve called in shortly after Donovan revealed this.
