Saturday live show

They are doing a show from the Helio store in Santa Monica then a concert 12-2 with The Ringers

Vinny Jones was there as well.

( he sounded a bit pissed off at the whole thing Monday. Too much like the organ grinders monkey )

( Steve was also at the Jet show Sunday night at Spaceland and got up and played some Faces songs with Chris Robinson singing and Slash up there as well. Eva Mendes was in the bus later :-) )

When i was young it was all green fields and interesting music around here. Not so much any more.
P.S. Where has the Red Zone gone the last 3 weeks ?; I know Watusi Rodeo changed times ( bastards ) but it wasnt even mentioned and not on last Sunday .

(Update: Noon Steve seems to have done his own station id )

Okay .. Shovel just said it is Evan Dando !!!

Kind of a strange one. They chatted, did some Dolls songs then coming back from a commercial break Dando was gone without a goodbye or Thanks.

Time magazine and Steve

Look what Time magazine just called Jonesy !!

"One album was all they made, and probably all anyone could stand. Johnny Rotten, who had never sung before, had a gift for malice that he turned on the complacent England of the 70s. "God Save the Queen" dared voice the opinion that the monarch "ain't no human bein'." "Holidays in the Sun" mashed the Holocaust, the British economy and third world tourism into something offensive to hear ("I don't wanna holiday in the sun/ I wanna go to new Belsen/ I wanna see some/ History 'cause now I got a reasonable economy") and more offensive to ignore. Sid Vicious was a tragic sideshow, but credit guitarist Steve Jones, now one of America's best radio DJs, with making the songs explosive and catchy."

Thomas Dolby

guest today

thomasdolby.com

"I’m writing from a hotel in Buena Park, CA (behind the ‘Orange Curtain’) getting ready for a radio spot tomorrow on Steve Jones’ show, yes! the former Sex Pistols guitarist. I played a charity football match against him once, and he was pretty good. Fortunately I won’t need to gush about how much I adored ‘Anarchy in the UK’ and ‘God Save The Queen’ as a teenager, as I met Rotten a few years ago and I did enough gushing for both of them."

Dolbys anti-kfed song "You're Karma hit my dogma" and his big 80's hit "I fart in elevators" :-)

Re The Clash

From the Guardian;

Steve Jones
Sex Pistols and Indie 103.1 FM, LA

London Calling

I loved the Clash. They were formed because of seeing the Pistols, so they were never seen as a threat. The Pistols were number one and the Clash were number two, even if that was perceived to have changed further along the road. I like the way they played because it was the same style as I'm from, the same school of glam. Mick Jones was coming from the same place I was. I went up to Birmingham and played with them. It was all good in my book.

'London Calling' was their 'Anarchy in the UK'. I thought it was a depressing song but significant, because of the lyrics. You know, history gets twisted by those who weren't there. The Clash, they were there, we were there. I've had Mick on the blower for the radio show. And Joe would leave me these weird messages when he was alive, at 5am, saying how I was his fave guitar player. They were great guys. I liked them.

Dispatches Update
#274. 10-04-06 LA CA: 2311 hrs. Billy Bragg was so damn good. I have not seen him in some time. I’ve always liked his work. I have seen him play over the years and it’s always great. Today he played two songs for the show. He did two takes each and they were flawless so I am sure we have great footage for the show. That made my week watching him play.

so 2 songs for IFC were more fun than some time on the 'box. Ah well.

The West 100
Our list of the most powerful people in Southern California

Steve "Jonesy" Jones
Indie rock deejay; former Sex Pistol; 50, Benedict Canyon

His playlist on KDLD/KDLE-FM (103.1) is pretty much whatever the bloke feels like 'earing, which has made "Jonesy's Jukebox" not just one of L.A.'s hottest radio shows but the source of a cottage industry in downloads and CD sales. Virgin Megastores now feature "Jonesy's Picks" sections. At least three fledgling bands have gotten major label deals because Jonesy played them. And though the station doesn't match the ratings or signal strength of L.A.'s alt-rock big dog KROQ-FM (106.7), it's credited with forcing rivals to get edgier or step aside.

Another good show. Although as usual with the guests you get the feeling an interesting discussion is going on off air while Jonesy is just dying to play "Ernie, the fastest milkman in the West" again.or Leo Sayer . Or Alvin Stardust . or Cliff Richards .

"I regret not stealing the guitars". Talk about the RnR HOF decision. Steves real dad had phoned and left a mesage this morning. Chrissie Hynde, Joan Jett etc . Steve finding love.

LAist still listens to Indie and Jonesy.

Rosannas Rockumentary;

Yes, Jonesy has cut his My Space list from almost 3,000 to 261 at
last count. "why did you do that?" asked Mr. Shovel, "Is it a
power thing?" "It's entertaining," sez Jonesy...and Jonesy plays
the Beatles!!! "You're Gonna Lose That Girl."

... the Beatles ???

"I think the Cult are playing tonight ... they're doing a benefit for some guy for some thing"

I have not really listened to the rebroadcasts for a while and the one today, at least, was a strange mixture of the initial broadcasts first and second hours. I wonder if they do that all of the time; trying to cherry pick a one hour show rather than re-edit a complete hour for rebroadcast in the morning.Interesting.

"We're not coming"

RnR HoF
"We're not coming . We're not your monkey and so what ?"

"Were not going to the museum,
You can shove it, You can have it,
Were not going to the famous , the famous, famous
that blew out the candles on the last flame of the famous museum,

Were not going to roll over just yet, and take it up the .. behind,
You know what i am talking about.. Jimmy would be proud
coming to get you , roll over, let Johnny take over.

We don't want you, we're already famous without you telling us
that we are famous. Do you understand ?"
You're all idiots , you probably couldn't name one song on Never

Guest: Jah Wobble

Guest: Jah Wobble

Jah Wobble

Great stories , Great guest.

First PiL album was first recording.

Also tied together story that McLaren had told re Westwood wanting Vicious to be Pistols singer not Lydon. Jah talked about Sid being really dissappointed when he found out Lydon was singer. A lot of punk history casually being put together on Indie :-)
Just like when Scabies was in the first time and they started talking about the tour they were on and finally managed to sort out the stories.

PiL on American Bandstand. Jah Wobble in medical room for exhaustion. Casey Kasem looking like he was painted. Didnt know who he was. Though he was in danger of "molestation" . . "Let me get on the drums as i played the drums on that track anyway. John making everyone uncomfortable." Steve " the paid extras just didnt know what was going on"

Live acoustic "No,No,No"

Steve " i might come down tonight. Any crumpet ? "
Jah " Only me. Turn out the lights and its all the same "
Both laugh.

Steve mentioned Rat Scabies being back in again but unless i fell asleep he didnt make it.
Maybe tomorrow. Following up on his film script about the early days touring together they talked about before.
Too much bloody Journey !! ( .. and Leo Sayer :-) )

Sex was better in the 70s, not like now when there are lots
of"uptight ponces" around. Also, mentioned something about a
baboon's bottom (don't ask) and sang an anti-hippie song. "Take
that hemp and tie you to the tree with it", etc.)

Updates

I have slacked off on the updates since Jones has been back since the shows have been sort of naff.
Back to the Rolf Harris; Cliff Richards; Disco days; meandering sets; melodica thing . He really needs a guest in once or twice a week to focus.
It gets a bit too like Jimmy Savilles old Sunday Lunchtime show ,with points for bands full names etc.

Jonesy needs to join MySpace Anonymous. You think digging ditches
is bad? Try working underneath the air conditioner vents in the
Indie studio.

ELP-Knife's Edge
Mr. Big (from the '70s)-Romeo
Rory Gallagher-Tattoed Lady

Friday, January 06, 2006

Thursday, January 05, 2006

Mr. Shovel tries to cover the air conditioner vents with
cardboard, as the air conditioning might be the reason Jonesy gets
sick so often. Or could it be the chemtrails in the sky? It's a
conspiracy!

Pistols/Madonna-Ray of Gob (Mashup)
Deep Dish-Dreams
Client-Radio
Everything But The Girl-Missing

Wednesday, January 04, 2006

Jonesy has changed his MySpace profile pic to one of him as a slim
